Caggara
House
Caggara House for Brisbane Housing Company balances affordability and quality with a high level of interaction and social cohesion for its residents and the community.
The social housing development provides the best possible amenity to sunlight, breezes, natural landscape and social interaction. This was achieved while being sensitive to the surrounding residential setting and taking particular care to address and activate the street.
Two buildings were designed around a central green heart that encourages natural ventilation to the 57 single bed units and provides a retreat for residents to come together outside of their homes.
Caggara House provides a successful precedent for other residents considering downsizing and state housing authorities contemplating future strategies for underused housing stock.
