Adelaide Street
Designed and delivered as a fully managed Student Accommodation facility in the heart of Brisbane’s CDB, Student One Adelaide Street is the first of three student accommodation towers to be completed by Arkhefield.
The project required a substantial retrofit of an existing 15 storey commercial office tower with the key objective was to design and deliver a building that reflected a range of student needs and appealed to a multicultural student clientele. The unit types were designed for study and sleeping, while shared common spaces could provide important opportunities for social interaction and flexible learning. Retail spaces on the ground level complement student needs and activate the building surrounds both day and night.
Retrofitting an existing commercial building has many benefits. Providing a generous public lobby space, creating a presence on a prominent city corner and open space for students to join the community the high floor to ceiling heights which create a great sense of livability in a high rise tower.
The building is a welcoming, vibrant place for students to live, study and play. The detailed screen and façade elements wrap the two major street frontages and define the new identity of the building. Colours, vibrancy and warmth were introduced into common areas through carpets, feature lighting, joinery and soft furnishing. The complete building consists of 359 apartments and studios with 687 beds and extensive study and living facilities for residents.
